I got an e-mail about this article and at first thought it was all a joke.
And then Yuan found the source article in a journal. WOW...... So apparently having 'male' preferences in what fields I wanna go into or what kind of things I fantasize as a kid is now 'treatable' with a drug?? Ummmm what? And the lady who did the study actually advocates it so that women would want to get married and raise babies........O_o. I didn't realize me not really interested in guys/ not fantasizing about being married or pregnant as a kid was a PROBLEM........

Yes, Z, you are are a problem--- it's not normal to want to do those computery things.... HAHA jk.
I'm a little confused about the study still. Are they treating random pregnant women with the drug? Or only ones whose babies might be predisposed to CAH?
I think the writer of this article is a bit biased--- but I can't really tell because I haven't read the original paper! It seems like the author is focusing on the "lesbian" part, but I feel like the original study is probably more geared towards preventing CAH (which is associated with lesbianism perhaps?). Treating for lesbianism specifically is very wrong, but I can see why you would want to prevent CAH, since girl babies being born with male genitalia is not ideal, not to mention that CAH comes with other medical problems later in life.
Interesting =)
Oh, and I should clarify that I am very pro-gay rights, so I'm not bashing the author of the article because I think gay/lesbianism is wrong or a disease or whatever in any way. From a medical standpoint, I disagree with the way the article was written. The author didn't provide an explanation of what sort of medical condition congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is. (Conveniently). It's not all about lesbianism. In fact, it mostly is not about lesbianism.
OK. Gotta get back to interpreting my PCR =P
yeah i wouldn't have cared as much if it were only about lesbianism. But the article seems to suggest females doing any sort of 'male' behaviour is wrong. Whatever 'male' behaviour means.
And you're right, maybe they're just treating the medical condition of male genitalia in baby girls. It's just the way it's all worded......is stirring up the feminist in me.....gahhhh
